Before you go

Before your trip, it is mandatory to fill out a medical form and have it signed by your doctor. 

 

Suggested Packing List

 

Mandatory Items (Outdoors):
  • Sturdy sneakers for short hikes

  • Teva style sandals that secure your feet (flip flops are not allowed on hikes)

  • Water bottle (plastic only - metal gets too hot)

  • Hat - Participants will be required to wear a hat on every hike

  • Sunscreen

  • Daypack (a small backpack for carrying a few items on day trips)

  • Flashlight (and batteries)

  • Sunglasses

 

 
Mandatory Items (Miscellaneous):
  • Watch and alarm clock

  • Some form of identification with name, address and photo

  • Double supply of any medication you will need

  • Extra pair of prescription glasses

  • Passport valid through January 2018 (or longer)

  • 2 copies of your passport

 

 
General Items
  • 1 beach towel and 2 shower towels

  • 1-2 pairs of flip flops/slippers

  • 14-18 pairs of underwear

  • 12 pairs of socks

  • 6 pairs of shorts

  • 12 T-shirts and tank-tops

  • 8 work-appropriate tops (tank tops are not allowed on hikes/walking tours and for most internship placements)

  • 5 casual lightweight pants/jeans for internships

  • 1-2 pairs of lounge-pants

  • 3 outfits you don’t mind getting dirty

  • 2 long sleeve shirts

  • 1 sweatshirt

  • 2 sets of sleepwear

  • 2 swimsuits

  • 1 pair of sneakers

  • 1 pair of dress shoes

  • Toiletries

  • Journal

  • One set of modest clothes for visiting religious sites (Men should bring long pants and a “nice” shirt. Women should bring a long skirt (at least calf-length, no slits) and a blouse that covers the shoulders and upper arms.  

 

 
Other Recommended Items:

 

  • Adapter for electrical appliances (electrical equipment has to be adaptable to 220 volts and have a European adapter for the prong. Equipment on a motor (i.e., hair dryer) must be adaptable to 50 Hz (as opposed to 110 volts and 60 Hz for North America.)Nail clipper

  • Digital camera

  • Tissues

  • Extra batteries

  • Playing cards

  • Smartphone

  • Laptop (WiFi is available in the apartments)

  • Small packets of soap powder/hand-washing liquid for hand laundry

  • Sleeping bag for traveling during free time
